B'Yachad / Together

The Solomon Schechter Day School
This mosaic was commissioned to honor the retirement of Jane Taubenfeld Cohen, the Head of School for two decades. The theme of B'Yachad/Together is symbolically expressed by the two hands reaching upwards.
The text that reads 'Create a pure heart for us O God; create in us a steadfast spirit' adds to the overall meaning. The lettering is handmade from clay, glazed and fired.
In the white background are many small clay tiles that are glazed various shades of white, all made by the students.
The blue border includes hand glazed tiles of symbols relating to school culture.
