The Open Your Eyes Mosaic explores the theme of L’Dor V’Dor, From Generation to Generation.
The temple commissioned ‘Jewish Mosaic Arts’ to create this mosaic as an important element in response to the architectural renovation of the synagogue building in 2020. The mosaic celebrates the continuity of generations in response to the congregation’s feelings of struggle with the physical changes to their spiritual home.
Temple Shalom’s ‘Open Your Eyes Program’, an arts focused temple program instituted to celebrate the creative legacy of founding member Anita Winer, co- sponsored the mosaic commission in collaboration with the Arthur Cohen family, in recognition of Mr. Cohen’s active participation in the life of the temple as an architect.
The style of this mosaic is symbolic and abstract, the expanding and overlapping circular motif expressing the interconnectedness of generations and Jewish culture and spirituality.
