The Song of Hope Mosaic/ Shir Tikva
Temple Shir Tikva, Wayland MA
Created in Honor of Cantor Hollis Schachner's 18th year at Shir Tikva

Shir Tikva Synagogue commissioned ‘Jewish Mosaic Arts’ to create this three part mosaic in celebration of the 18th year of the Cantor’s spirited participation in the life of the synagogue. The left side depicts the theme of ‘Song’ and the Shabbat evening service .  The right side depicts the theme of ‘Hope’ and the Shabbat Saturday daytime service.

The abstract waves are parting around the entry doors. Small tiles created from clay by the congregation and glazed by Joshua Winer are integrated into the texture of the blue waves. The Hebrew Exodus passes through the center, moving towards the Promised Land and the Seven Species.

The theme of night to day is rhymed by the unfurling scroll with the temple name in Hebrew and English in the center at top above the door opening.
